How to Stand Out in Your Resume and Interview

With PSA’s headquarters move to Charlotte in January 2026, we’re growing our team and opening the door to exciting new opportunities. If you’re ready to kickstart your career at PSA, now is the perfect time to polish your resume and prepare for interviews. To help you stand out, our recruiting team shared their top tips.

Crafting a Standout Resume

Your resume is often the first impression you make, so clarity and organization are key.

  • Keep it clean and concise. A simple, easy-to-read format goes a long way. Avoid being too wordy and focus on highlighting your most relevant experience.
  • Use chronological order. Start with your most recent role at the top (e.g., 2019–Present), then work your way back. This helps recruiters clearly see your career progression.
  • Include the essentials. List your company, title, and years of service. Beneath each role, add a short summary of your responsibilities and use bullet points to call out key skills or accomplishments.
    • Example: Instead of just writing “Excel experience,” explain how you used it—such as “Created weekly Excel reports to track department performance.”

Preparing for the Interview

Once your resume gets you in the door, preparation helps you stand out during the interview process.

  • Communicate promptly. Always reply to recruiter emails to confirm you’ve received the details.
  • Arrive early. Plan for extra travel time, traffic is unpredictable. If it’s a virtual interview, log in at least five minutes early to test your connection, camera, and microphone.
  • Dress the part. At PSA, we follow a “dress for your day” approach. For interviews, aim for professional but comfortable. You don’t need a three-piece suit, but polished attire makes a great impression.
  • Create the right environment. For virtual interviews, find a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted.
  • Do your homework. Research PSA and read the job description closely. If something in the description isn’t clear, ask about it during the interview, it shows you want to fully understand the role.
  • Prepare thoughtful questions. Asking about the company, team culture, or role expectations shows genuine interest and initiative.

Making a Great Impression

Interviews are about finding the right fit – for both you and PSA.

  • Show enthusiasm. Demonstrate curiosity about the role, PSA’s mission, and our growth in Charlotte.
  • Take a moment to reset. Before your interview, pause and get into the right mindset, you’ll come across more confident and relaxed.
  • Follow up. Sending a thank-you note afterward is a professional touch that leaves a lasting impression.

At PSA, we’re looking for driven, reliable, and caring individuals who are ready to grow with us as we build our future in Charlotte. By creating a clear, tailored resume, preparing thoroughly for your interview, and making a strong impression, you’ll set yourself apart as a candidate.
