AAPI Heritage Month Feature: Component Repair Analyst Aoy Atkins Shares her Passion for her Culture and Aviation

Aoy Atkins, a five-year-veteran at PSA, and a Component Repair Analyst, had always been fascinated with airplanes since she was young girl, traveling with her parents. At a young age, she was so curious and would sit in the plane and wonder about the inner-workings of the aircraft: how an airplane was able to carry so many people and stay in the air, how the engine worked and how they made the airplane so light but so strong. Her passion for aviation brought her to PSA and Aoy shared that she is still as amazed and excited about airplanes as she was as a kid.

After I graduating with her undergrad in Psychology at Srinakharinwirot University, Thailand in 2004, she wanted to travel and explore the world before planning to return to join the family business in Bangkok, Thailand, where her parents have a small clothing factory and wholesale storefront. She worked for several families through an Au pair program in the United States.

“I fell in love with the U.S. and the people,” said Aoy. “I loved that so many people came from all over the world with their own cultures and identities to live and work side-by-side other people from all over the world. I felt like the U.S. was a place that anyone can fit in and belong.”

Aoy met her husband through a friend from college on one of her many trips, shortly before finishing up her work contract and returning to Thailand to work for the family business. They eventually married in 2012 and she became a U.S citizen in 2017. Her pride and passion for her home country, the U.S. and PSA shines through her actions and advice to others.

“Since moving to the United States I have been very lucky to move to a great community and find a wonderful company to work for with PSA,” said Aoy. “Sometimes I get home sick and miss Thailand, but I love my new country and am proud to be an Asian American. My experience as an American has taught me a lot: Don’t limit yourself – many people limit themselves to what they think they can and can’t do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. Believe in yourself and put in the effort and you can achieve anything.”

Siriporn “Aoy” Atkins, Component Repair Analyst shares how her traveling experiences with her family influenced her pursuit of a career in aviation.
