On Wednesday, December 16, the Federal Aviation Administration visited the PSA Airlines Maintenance Facility in Dayton, Ohio to present Sam “Sammy” Goforth, an Airframe/Powerplant Technician, with the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. Sam was awarded a certificate and a lapel pin.
This prestigious award recognizes Sam’s achievements of having over 60 years working in the aviation industry, ranging from serving in the United States Air Force to currently working as a Technician for PSA since 2006.
“The Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award is named in honor of Mr. Charles Taylor, the first aviation mechanic in powered flight. The Charles Taylor “Master Mechanic” Award recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics. Mr. Taylor served as the Wright brothers’ mechanic and is credited with designing and building the engine for their first successful aircraft.” (Retrieved from https://www.faasafety.gov/content/MasterMechanic/)
Friends, family and colleagues were gathered together to celebrate.
“Sammy is very well respected by his peers as evidenced by the number of co-workers that came out to celebrate the presentation of his Charles Taylor award on their day off,” said Robert Sweet, Maintenance Training Instructor at PSA. “Contributing greatly to this respect has been Sammy’s willingness to mentor our newer employees, myself included, and his strong personal work ethic he demonstrates on a nightly basis.”
To commemorate the evening, Sam’s fellow mechanics presented him with a set of gold plated wrenches.
