Throwback Thursday! Remembering PSA’s Trip to Mirabel

On June 5th, 2014, 40 lucky PSA employees got to participate in the trip to Mirabel, Canada for PSA’s 1st CRJ900 Delivery Ceremony and a Bombardier factory tour! The day was a great celebration for our employees and a chance to get to know colleagues from all over, see where our planes are built, and witness the collective pride and joy that PSA’s hard work has manifested.

When asked to summarize their experience, here is what some of our employees had to say:

“Overall an amazing once in a lifetime experience. I loved every second of it. I will definitely remember the Mirabel trip the rest of my life.” Christopher Sailer, Safety Program Manager

“FANTASTIC, very well done. I was very happy that management was able to allow line employees to participate in this event and appreciate the effort that went into coordinating the occasion.” – Michelle Spangler, Check Flight Attendant/Inflight Training Specialist

“I think I can speak for everyone we were treated like royalty.” – Kevin Peters, Flight Attendant

Here’s what some of our participants say was their favorite parts of the trip:

“The factory tour and interacting with the people at Bombardier who make our airplanes. Also interacting with management personnel and fellow employees.” – Donne Walton, Flight Attendant

“Enjoyed it all. The circus performers at lunch were a pleasant surprise.”- Mark Lakovich, Pilot Instructor

“Being able to tour the factory and have a person explain different parts of what they work on. I thought it was really neat to get to know that side of the company.” -Megan Bicking, Dispatcher

PSA Airlines Corporate Challenge Team Regains Champion Title in 2014

Each year PSA participates in Vandalia Parks and Recreation’s Corporate Challenge- a week long series of challenges and sporting events opened to businesses in the community. This year, teams from 9 local companies joined together in the fun and friendly competition and the PSA’s team’s skills and hard work brought home the number one spot for the 11th time since the Challenge’s inception! Team leaders Vicki Ray and Todd Partridge were monumental in organizing the teams, events, shirts, and food and beverage.

The competition started out rough for PSA in the first half of the week. Saturday, June 7th through Wednesday, June 11th included bowling, billiards, sand volleyball, Minute to Win It, football, Frisbee, pizza eating, basketball, soccer, golf, and homerun derby. Despite our hard work, PSA was in the fourth place and sixty points behind first place following these events.

Hopes remained high, however, and the second half of the week showed our company’s true resilience and dedication! Thursday and Friday closed out the competition with euchre, corn hole, a jigsaw puzzle contest, and trivia. Each of these contests grabbed more points on the board and brought us closer to bringing the overall trophy back to PSA, but it was our trivia team that truly came through in the clutch.

“When I came on board in 1991 it was something for me to get involved with to get to know the people that I would be working with and today it is an honor to have kept it going,” says team leader Vicki Ray when asked what the Challenge means to her. “It is a great benefit to be able to spend time with other people within PSA that I do not normally work with on a day to day basis.”

PSA Celebrates the Reception of 1st CRJ900!

View photos at Dayton Daily News, our Facebook page, or Flickr!

PSA employees, members of the Dayton community, and Bombardier Aerospace personnel celebrated the reception of our first CRJ900 Wednesday, May 21st at the DAY hangar. Attendees were all given the chance to walk through the new aircraft, hear about our future from our president and community leaders, and for some, take a short flight!

Seeing the promise of new jets come to fruition was the most exciting aspect for many of our employees. Touring the aircraft and learning about the American cabin design colors and materials, cabin elements such as large overhead bins, leather seating, and inflight Wi-Fi, and testing out the larger leg room for main cabin extra passengers were some of the highlights of the day. Not to mention that new aircraft smell!

We look forward to feeling the same excitement upon receiving each of our 30 new aircraft but yesterday’s celebration really made our growth feel real! Thank you to everyone that celebrated with us in Dayton and elsewhere!

A Day in Charlotte

There is always some fun happening in Charlotte! Be sure to check out our Facebook album of A Day in CLT!

So much of what makes up PSA as an airline stems from our operations in CLT. From caring managers and integral crew resources, to our amazing front-line employees themselves, a Day in CLT is one of the best ways to get a feel for what makes PSA, PSA.

First on our trip to Charlotte, we got to see one of our newer Flight Attendants, Nicole Miller , on her first 700 flight! Fellow Flight Attendant Loveisha Ortiz and Nicole both did a great job! We made sure to get a picture with the whole crew: Captain David Henderson, First Officer Charles Bault and Flight Attendants Loveisha Ortiz and Nicole Miller. They made our bright and early flight from DAY wonderful!

Next we had the honor of presenting an exceptional Flight Attendant, April Sims, with her $10,000 Above & Beyond prize! April spoke modestly about the love she has for her job and her motto to “treat every passenger like they’re First Class.” April also told us of her plans to put her prize towards buying a house. Best wishes, April! You deserve it!

We got to spend the rest of our visit with some of our Charlotte-based management. First, speaking with Chief Pilot Shaun Schaney and Assistant Chief Pilot George Reazer about their daily duties for PSA was a whirlwind! These two handle everything from daily operations and constant interdepartmental communications, to assistance with recruiting and helping resolve crew member issues. It also happened to be Assistant Chief Pilot George Reazer’s birthday. His commitment to our airline every day warranted him quite the celebration; We hope you had a great birthday, George!

We also got to see Recruiter Alycia Garrison at work as well as Inflight Assistant Manager Cindy Phillips and Human Resources Assistant Amy Portis. Speaking with Inflight Assistant Manager Cindy Phillips quickly brings to light what a true ambassador for the Inflight Department she is! Her strength lies in her approachable personality and her experience as a Flight Attendant. As someone that has walked in their shoes, Cindy is a great champion and mentor for all Flight Attendants! Similarly, Human Resources Assistant Amy Portis’ favorite of her long list of duties is her engagement with employees and her ability to help resolve their problems. Her assistance with a wide range of issues help keep our crew members able to do their jobs!

As with all of PSA’s hard working employees, it was great to see the dedication of each of these individuals on our trip to Charlotte. Make sure to see all of their smiling faces here!
