How long have you worked for PSA? 9.5 years

How long have you been in the airline industry? 9.5 years

Give us a brief overview of what you do: I oversee the daily operation of the PSA IT Helpdesk. This includes monitoring the trouble ticket queue to make sure we resolve issues in a timely manner and assigning tickets to the appropriate person. I also oversee the telephone system and its programming. I put together purchase requisitions for IT equipment.

What is one of the biggest challenges of your job? I guess I would have to say trying to prioritize Helpdesk tickets. Tickets aren’t generated unless someone has an issue. I have to try to determine the need, if it’s mission critical, and who to assign the ticket to get the request resolved.

How many roles have you had at PSA? Which is your favorite? My first position at PSA was as a PC Technician. My only other role has been the Helpdesk Supervisor position and that is by far my favorite. I like the challenges and responsibilities of the position.

Where’s your favorite place you have traveled? England. During Spring Break of my senior year of high school, my grandparents took my brother and I on a 10-day trip to England. We got to see the Tower of London with the Crown Jewels, Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, Bath, and Stratford-upon-Avon (the birthplace of William Shakespeare). It was a really awesome trip.

What are some of your hobbies? I like to travel with my family, working on small (key word being small) DIY projects around the house, and reading.

You are an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, as apparent from your desk and workspace. How did you become a Steelers fan? I started following football back in the 70’s when they won their first Super Bowl and I’ve been a fan ever since.

What do you love about working for PSA? The people and the environment. Everyone here is easy to get along with and will help you any way they can. The environment is dynamic. One day it can be laid back and stress-free and the next, not so much. It’s hard to get bored or fall into a rut when you don’t know what each day will bring. I like that.

What did you do before coming to PSA? I’ve been working in the IT field for the past 20 years.  I’ve worked at a few big companies in the Dayton area. I also worked for a company that performed in-home computer repair. That’s quite a change from a corporate environment.

Tell us something about your role that most people don’t know: I get to shop on Amazon for IT equipment.

What has been the most rewarding part of your job? I like the satisfaction of knowing that I’ve done my best to complete a project or make someone’s day better by implementing a solution that makes their job easier to do.

Tell us something no one knows about you: After graduating from high school, I went to the University of Colorado in pre-med. I wanted to be an Ophthalmologist. Obviously, that didn’t work out.

 

The Faces of PSA – Meet Bobby Burns

Title: Flight Attendant

How long have you worked for PSA? 10 Months

Give us a brief overview of what you do: As a Flight Attendant, it is my job to be the face of the company. I try my hardest to make sure that every passenger who steps foot into my cabin feels that I care for them. Every flight I practice providing service from the heart with a big smile and a warm hello to everyone to comes on board.

What brought you to PSA? My dream of being in the skies. Ever since I can remember, I have always aspired to become a Flight Attendant and PSA was willing to take the chance on me.

Where’s your favorite place you have traveled? Chicago O’Hare Airport, actually. When I step foot into ORD I cannot explain the amount of energy I feel, I am just absolute overwhelmed.

Do you have a destination that you can’t wait to see? One day I want to travel to Alsace-Lorraine, Germany (Modern Day France). My family came to America on October 19, 1897 from Alsace-Lorraine to escape religious persecution. I would love to one day to just go “home” and visit where my great-grandparents came from.

What are some of your hobbies? Latin Dance, Painting, Opera and Pageantry.

What do you love about working for PSA?  I love the family that PSA has created for me. While in ground school I made friends with some of the interesting people in the world, a pageant girl, surf shop owner, dancer, bartender, former vice president, a stay-at-home-mom, and retired government employee and so many more. The friends I have made during ground school will stick with me for the rest of my life. I love them all and think of them every day. Because of PSA I have more than just a biological family, but I have a Wing Family #UnitedByWings.

Why would you recommend PSA? I feel like, no matter what, we are still watched out for by our company. I have worked in a few other companies where I was just a number but I actually feel valued by my work. I have run into issues here and there just like any other employee but there is nothing that hasn’t been able to be fixed.

What did you do before coming to PSA? Before coming to work at PSA, I worked for Mercy Hospital in the Pediatric Emergency Room.

Tell us something about your role that most people don’t know: In all reality, I am a “workaholic.” I am perfectly comfortable working 112 hours.

What has been the most rewarding part of your job? I’d have to say that the most rewarding part of my job is that I love it. It’s amazing to wake up every morning and be excited to go to work. If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Tell us something no one knows about you: When I was younger, I had a Flight Attendant uniform made for me by my mom and for three years I went as a Flight Attendant representing each of the three major airlines for Halloween.

 

 

The Faces of PSA – Meet Maggie Short

Name: Maggie Short

Title: Internal Communications Specialist

How long have you worked for PSA? I started working for PSA on March 21, 2016. 

What brought you to PSA? I was looking for work after a long career in the media business. I felt my journalism and digital content background were skills that could transfer to corporate communications. 

Give us a brief overview of what you do: My main responsibilities are to communicate to employees about company news, events and features.

What is one of the biggest challenges of your job? Learning about all the great things that happen around PSA, especially outside of Dayton.

Where’s your favorite place you have traveled? Hmm. This is a tough one. The trip I took to Winnipeg, Canada is one I will never forget, mostly because I got to see a World Cup with my best friend.

What are some of your hobbies? Officiating soccer and playing board games with my husband.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Cincinnati. I went to Wright State University in Dayton and never left the area.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Difficult for me to picture that, but still involved in soccer and much more versed in the aviation industry communications.

What do you love about working for PSA? The people I work with the closest. The support, care and opportunities to learn daily are incredible. I went to college for journalism. I love talking to people and getting to know their story, as well as learning about a whole new world. This job gives me the opportunity to write and “be a journalist” again.

Would you recommend PSA and why? Yes. The growth and opportunities that come from working here are immense. There is a commitment to strive towards greatness that I’ve seen in few other companies.

What did you do before coming to PSA? I worked for Cox Media Group Ohio, where I held numerous positions related to managing content on various websites.

You are a U.S. Soccer National Official, what does that mean? Technically, I am a Grade 4 National Assistant Referee. I am the person on the sideline with a flag with a primary responsibility for calling offside. I am qualified to be an AR on all levels of professional soccer, except MLS (Major League Soccer, the top men’s professional league in the U.S.). I was a National Referee for two years as well (the person with the whistle running in the middle of the field).

Why did you get into soccer officiating? My older brother was a referee and my mom was an assignor. If we went to a game and there wasn’t a full crew, my mom would say, “go grab a flag and help out your brother.” I loved working games with my brother and spending time with him.

What are some of the games you’ve had the privilege to officiate? I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had the opportunities to referee some big games. Some that come to mind: Referee for the U.S. Women’s National Team vs. New Zealand; MLS Reserve League 4th official; Numerous NWSL (women’s professional league) games as an Assistant Referee; First referee to work a game when the University of Louisville opened its soccer stadium; Referee for two NCAA national championship semifinals and First female to referee an Ohio High School boys state championship.

Tell us something about your role that most people don’t know: There’s more to planning big announcements and events than most people realize.

What has been the most rewarding part of your job? Learning and feeling the support from the team.

Tell us something no one knows about you: I played snare drum for my high school marching band and two years in my college pep band.
