How long have you worked for PSA? I have worked for PSA for just over 6 years total. After leaving in 2006, I returned in 2014.

How long have you been in the airline industry? PSA is the only airline I’ve worked for, however, I’ve been in the Aviation Industry for 22 years beginning with the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic at 17 years old.

Give us a brief overview of what you do: Fleet Management’s goal is to ensure our flight procedures are the safest possible while helping our aircraft remain reliable and operate efficiently, in that order. We are responsible for the Pilot Operating Handbook (Flight SOP), Aircraft Emergency Procedures (QRH-Quick Reference Handbook), Electronic Flight Bags, MEL O-procedures and Operational Engineering, which includes aircraft performance and weight and balance. Simply put – if it affects how our pilots operate the aircraft, we are involved.

What is one of the biggest challenges of your job? One of the biggest challenges is also one of the most rewarding. We are routinely presented with new projects that can involve many outside organizations. Finding the right person to give us the answers we need can be difficult.

How many roles have you had at PSA? Which is your favorite? I’ve held a few positions at PSA.  Dornier First Officer, CRJ First Officer, CRJ Captain, Pilot Ground Instructor, Flight Simulator Instructor, Ground Training Supervisor and Fleet Manager. Aside from flying the line, I’d say Fleet Manager has been my favorite role.

Where’s your favorite place you have traveled? I’d have to say it’s a tie between Southern France, Telluride, CO or an Akron overnight. Tough call.

What are some of your hobbies? I enjoy hiking, biking, trail running, or anything outdoors. I also enjoy spending time with family which lately involves a lot of time coaching youth sports.

What do you love about working for PSA? The opportunities for professional and personal growth are tremendous. PSA is a company on the move and it is exciting to be part of such a great story.

Why would you recommend PSA? First, the people are great to work with! Second, I believe that leadership is committed to ensuring PSA continues its growth and has a long, secure future with American Airlines.

What did you do before coming to PSA? Before PSA most recently, I spent eight years flying for a corporate flight department. Before I came to PSA the first time, I was a flight instructor for Kansas State University.

Tell us something about your role that most people don’t know: Most line pilots don’t realize that Fleet Management has a few dedicated instructors that serve as Fleet Captains. We also have a lot of support members that are included in the change processes. We don’t change procedures just for the sake of change. Instructors, Check Airmen, APDs, Chief Pilots, and Line Pilots all have a say in how we operate our aircraft.

What has been the most rewarding part of your job? I love working with the various departments within PSA. Learning how the company operates on a larger scale has been very enlightening.
